Crow – Meeting Animal

Meeting Crow

The Meeting Crow is a multitasker, often not fully present at the meeting because they attempt to complete other tasks while at the meeting.

Now let’s be honest. The Crow isn’t the only one who is guilty of multitasking. It could be anything from thinking about a project that you have to complete or checking your phone. It is important to be focused completely when attending meetings.

Lead By Example

First off, if you, the meeting leader, are multitasking during a meeting your attendees will take notice. By simply checking your phone at a meeting you are setting the standard of the meeting. This action lets everybody at the meeting know that it’s okay to check their phones or otherwise multitask.

Now that we aren’t multitasking ourselves, how do you address this multitasking meeting animal?

Engage The Meeting Crow

The trick here is to keep the Meeting Crow engaged in the meeting, that way they won’t have time to stray to their other tasks. It’s important to understand that when somebody multitasks, the tasks that they are attempting to complete will be of lower quality than if they keep there focus on one task at a time.

Tools For Engagement

The best way to keep the Crow engaged calling on them frequently. There is a couple of ways you can call on the Crow to continue to keep the meeting productive and efficient while reducing the Crow’s multitasking.

Ask questions

Ask the Crow questions about the topic at hand and get their feedback. This potentially creates capturable meeting content while keeping the Crow aware of what’s going on in the meeting.

Summarizing

Summarizing is a great method for multitasking animals as well as the less-spoken animals. After a topic is concluded it helps all attendees to get a summary of what was just discussed to ensure clarity throughout the group. Calling on the Crow to summarize is a great way to make sure the Crow was paying attention during the topic as well as clarifying the conclusion for the group.
